Increasing of natural gas share in fulfillment of energy requirements is strategic direction of Serbian energy sector for a long time. This fact, together with environmental friendly use of natural gas, enforces accelerated development of natural gas supply system in the region of Eastern Serbia. In this paper, energy balances of Eastern Serbia municipalities (8 municipalities in Bor and Zajecar counties) are presented and based to them, potential consumption of natural gas is defined. Different opportunities for supplying with natural gas are considered, based to defined energy balances. Routes and capacitates for main transmission pipelines, as well as positions and capacities of all gas pressure regulating and metering stations are proposed. Development of primary distribution network is considered. Financial estimation and appraisal of proposed options are presented. Environmental benefits of natural gas utilization are discussed.
