Risk is associated with every project and with each process and each decision throughout the life of a project. Risk should therefore be managed at each stage of the project and the risk management process should be incorporated with both the project management processes and the product-related processes. We could say that risk is a combination of frequency or occurrence probability and the consequence of a specific hazardous event. In this paper we have presented improvement possibilities of one of the most widely used classical failure analysis methods - FMEA method, by direct inclusion of risk analysis into this method. In practice we need a great deal of energy, time and money to carry out FMEA analysis of a complex system. Therefore, a great deal of effort is being made in finding the modified, accelerated ways for this method implementation, bearing in mind not forgetting the meaning and the concept of the analysis. One of the ways of this method more efficient application is FMEA process modification, by determining the influence and the occurrence frequency of each failure. Certain inconsistencies of FMEA method, which are related to RPN value, have beeen shown. This is illustrated on the example of bus support structure analysis, with special reference to the comparison of the results obtained by the traditional and modified method.
