Importance of the port machinery maintenance is determined by extremely high rank of significance of the port machinery in the cargo handling process. Results of appropriate analyses strongly confirm direct correlations between parameters characteristic for port machinery exploitation (cargo handling process) and those characteristic for port machinery maintenance process. An overview on general aspects of port machinery maintenance is given in this paper. Special attention is focused on maintenance process objectives, maintenance concepts, different models of the maintenance system organization, as well as, to some relations between maintenance process and key environmental aspects in a port.
